The Junior Girls High Performance Program is designed for girls who love basketball, enjoy being challenged, and want to get better.

We created this program to help bridge the gap between our school and grassroots programs and representative basketball such as WABL. It is a step up in terms of training, expectations and competition, while still maintaining what we believe is essential for young athletes: fun, friendship and a genuine enjoyment of sport.

What does "high performance" mean?

For us, high performance doesn't mean making the girls train like professionals. At this age, it means creating an environment where girls are comfortable:

  • Competing against and alongside others

  • Taking on challenges and trying difficult things

  • Working hard and practising skills

  • Learning from mistakes

  • Celebrating their successes and the successes of their teammates

  • Communicating, encouraging and being great teammates

We want the girls to compete, but also laugh. You'll hear plenty of encouragement, celebrations and probably a few jokes along the way.

Our belief is that if we can help girls genuinely fall in love with basketball, they have a much better chance of becoming really good at it.

What will we work on?

Sessions focus heavily on basketball skill development, including ball handling, finishing, shooting, footwork, decision-making and playing against defenders.

We also place an emphasis on movement and athletic development, helping girls develop coordination, balance, agility, body control and other movement skills that can transfer across basketball and into other sporting pursuits.

The girls will regularly be challenged through competitive games and activities, with an emphasis on learning to make decisions, respond to mistakes and keep trying when things become difficult.

Who is the program for?

The girls in the program come from different schools, age groups and levels of experience. What connects them is their interest in basketball and their willingness to work, learn and be challenged.

The program is intended for girls who are excited to spend time getting better at basketball. It is completely normal for the girls to have different levels of ability, but we do ask that they share a willingness to participate, listen, practise and contribute positively to the group.

This is particularly important because the experience of the group depends on everyone being invested in what we're trying to achieve.

If you're unsure whether the program is the right fit for your daughter, please get in touch with us before registering, we can offer a trial session. We are very happy to have a conversation about what your daughter is looking for and whether this environment will be a good fit for her.

Our goal

Ultimately, we want to give girls a really positive first experience of high performance sport.

We hope the program develops their enthusiasm to pursue basketball and other sporting opportunities as they get older. But if all we achieve is helping a girl become more confident, resilient, connected to her teammates and willing to have a go at difficult things, we will consider the program a success.

We want the girls to become better basketball players, but we care just as much about the people they become along the way.

If you're unsure whether the program is the right fit for your daughter, please get in touch with us before registering to discuss offering a trial session or use the trial registration link below. We are very happy to chat about what your daughter is looking for and whether this environment will be a good fit.
